1. Which characters in All Men Are Liars actually lie? Why, how, and to whom?
  2. How does Dana’s story reflect the 1970’s anti-establishment culture? How does that culture affect the characters, morally and spiritually? (If you were a child of the 60s-70s, how did it affect your life and outlook?)
  3. What truths (or lies) do our clothing choices make about us? What are we trying to say with our style and why is it important?
  4. The music of the 70’s is heavily referenced in the story—what part does it play in reflecting Dana’s conflicting ideals and state of mind?
  5. Which characters undergo the most change? What drives those transformations? Do you believe the changes will last?
  6. Like “The Little Mermaid,” Dana thinks outward conformity will help her fit in and find a “nice Christian boyfriend.” Discuss the tension between personal integrity and conscious conformity when trying to assimilate into a group (like church or academia) that’s crucial for self-fulfillment or happiness.
  7. Dana’s friends repeatedly try to show her the truth, with limited success. What lies does she want to believe? Which truths? Which does she resist and why?
